China Issues Basic Standards for Corporate Sustainability Disclosure (Trial)

On 17 December 2024, China's Ministry of Finance and eight other ministries jointly issued the Basic Standards for Corporate Sustainability Disclosure (Trial) (γδΌδΈε―ζη»ζ«ι²εεββεΊζ¬εε(θ―θ‘)γ), laying the foundation for a national sustainability reporting framework.
Key points:
- The framework follows a three-tier structure: Basic Standards, Specific Standards and Application Guidance.
- The standards cover governance, strategy, risk and opportunity management, and indicators & targets β aligned with international frameworks such as ISSB.
- Implementation will proceed in phases: specific standards, including climate-related disclosure requirements, are expected by 2027, with a unified national sustainability disclosure standard system targeted by 2030.
